British Land is a property company (REIT) that creates, owns and manages real estate throughout the UK, including world-class office space and retail property. Alan leads the Development Delivery team in the design, procurement, construction and handover of commercial office, life science, retail and mixed-use developments in British Land’s portfolio of London campuses and regional development. Alan is responsible for the coordination of British Land development delivery activities including technical briefing and specification, contractor & consultant selection, project procurement, development H&SE, programme and project management. The team have recently delivered the award winning projects such as 100 Liverpool Street, 1 Triton Square and public realm at Exchange Square; with £1.2Bn under development and a £3Bn development pipeline. Alan’s background, prior to development, was structural engineering within a multidisciplinary engineering practice. He has led teams in the design of a variety of buildings and infrastructure in the UK, Middle East and North Africa. Andy is the Executive Director of the Major Projects Association, prior to which he spent 30 years as a practitioner, consultant and assurer of complex projects and programmes for public, private and third sector organisations both domestically and internationally. Andy is a respected author, having worked with HM Treasury, Cabinet Office, the Association for Project Management, and PeopleCert to develop best practice guidance on their behalf. Publications include PRINCE2, P3M3, IPA Routemap and the Governance of Co-Owned Projects. He is the Chair of the APM’s Governance Special Interest Group and is leading on the Project Data Analytics Task Force. Andy is a collaborative and inclusive senior leader with a track record of building high-performing teams both within his organisation, across partnerships and with voluntary groups. Outside of work Andy is spends his time mountain biking or helping out Willaston FC (a community football club) as treasurer and manager of one of the youth teams. 

Barry Cullen has over 25 years’ experience in inspiring, educating and supporting a range of people from a variety of backgrounds into work and careers. Responsible for developing unique programmes and projects that have local and international appeal, Barry’s expertise covers skills, employability, apprenticeships, and helping firms to reap the tangible benefits of a diverse, equitable and inclusive workforce. Barry is the Co-Chair of London Gatwick's disability business resource group, Able2.

They are an expert in managing multi-disciplinary, multi-site, multi-million-pound projects and operations, with a focus on driving strategic growth and achieving full regulatory compliance. This executive excels in building, training, and developing high-performing teams, leveraging their industry expertise to understand the pressures of their roles and equipping them with the necessary tools for success. Caroline is a contract lead in the Defence and Nuclear Energy sector for Costain. She works with a diverse client portfolio to support interdisciplinary learning and innovation gained from working in highways, rail and water. She has worked in the construction sector for over a decade and has published numerous articles and papers on a range of subjects including heritage engineering. Sustainability, ergonomics and social value. She is a member of Women in Nuclear and an advocate and mentor for women in the construction sector.

Cat Goumal is Head of Education and Professional Development at the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation. With over a decade of managing education and lifelong learning for professionals working in construction and the built environment, Cat now leads on all of CIHT's qualifications including the Chartered Transport Planning Professional, Chartered Engineer and the Transport Planning Technician Apprenticeship as well as raising the profile of careers in highways and transportation and ensuring CIHT members develop the skills and knowledge needed to tackle the changing requirements of the sector.

An award-winning freelance journalist, Dhiren is MD of Karma PR. He is an exceptional leader in stakeholder engagement and international relations and has worked in the public and private sectors. A public speaker, Dhiren is passionate about Equality, Diversity & Inclusion and continues to put the interests of others, particularly youth, ahead of his own. Honored by the President of India for his contribution to diverse communities in the UK through his journalism, Dhiren is Chair of Governors at a school in his native city, Birmingham and sits on the Board of ITV Central News.

Gillian is CEO of BRE Group, the charity-owned research and innovation body which tests and certifies the sustainability and safety of built assets, construction materials and fire safety products. Apart from loving her job, she is passionate about three things - addressing climate change and nature depletion; kind leadership ( by which she means treating people with respect and dignity, empathy and honesty); and mentoring/ supporting women in the construction and property industry to help them realise their ambitions. 

Heather Bryant is the Regional Community and Social Impact Manager for Galliford Try’s Building Southern business. Heather has a background in community work in construction and affordable housing, helping to build value, enhance skills, and deliver training to increase employability and social equity. Heather has pioneered Galliford Try’s ‘Construction Mentoring Partnership Scheme’, introducing the multi award-winning programme at HMP High Down, focused on providing prisoners with tangible work experience, which has led to further employment upon release.

Hollie began her career in the rail industry in 2004 and progressed into a commercial role as a Quantity Surveyor before moving into a project management role delivering rail signaling projects. Her curiosity led her to ask why she was the only female PM, only female in meetings, no female engineers, etc., and then to offer to help, her then employer VolkerWessels UK, to accelerate their ED-FIR journey. IN 2016 Hollie was voted one of the 20 most inspirational women in rail by Women In Rail. She went on to lead the business to achieve its first external accreditation “Investors in Diversity” (IID) within 18 months, and indeed retained their certification winning “Engineering Company of the Year” two years in a row and moving from 74th to 8th position in the 100 most inclusive organisations. She represented the VolkerWessels UK business on various client-led industry forums, significantly the Rail Industry Association and National Highways Supplier Diversity Forum. She has been recognised as an impressive influencer championing the company to achieve several Diversity Awards. Hollie joined GRAHAM just over 2 years ago and in the short time she has been with the company, she has led the successful achievement of the Leaders in Diversity Gold Award; the appointment of over 100 FIR Ambassadors across the GRAHAM Group, and the emergence of several staff networks – which all helps drive cultural transformation as well as providing a sense of belonging for staff. Moreover, at first entry to IID, GRAHAM was judged as a Top 30 company in the Most Inclusive Workplaces 2023.

Iain joined the Federation of Master Builders (FMB) in August 2023 as their new South Hub Director. His role seems him supporting and representing the region’s 1,800 Master Builders and working with key industry stakeholders to ensure the issues that FMB members face in the region are recognised and considered. Prior to joining the FMB he was Senior Business Development Manager at the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) where he worked with construction professionals to help them and their businesses achieve Chartered company membership as well as access training and development opportunities.

A big believer and champion of CPD and ongoing learning, Iain is a Chartered Manager and Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute and also holds Leader grade membership (L.ISP) with the Institute of Sales Professionals.

Jenny McLaughlin has worked within the airport industry for over 20 years. This began at East Midlands Airport as an Environment and Safeguarding Officer achieving ISO14001. The last 16 years have been at Heathrow Airport in a number of departments including Environment, Airside and now Infrastructure as a project manager. Jenny has delivered a number of business changes, from new aircraft de-icing process, introducing new IT applications, building a remote coaching gate in the middle of a live terminal, to significant maintenance work to the Northern runway. Jenny is dyslexic and has ADHD and believes that “the way that my brain is wired differently is an asset”. Jenny is a speaker at a number of industry events on ‘Systematic Inclusion’, bringing to life the criticality of accessibility if we are to truly ‘Build Back Equitable’. This is most evident in being a key player in creation of RIBA Inclusive Design Overlay published summer 2023. Finally, Jenny is a Governor for Harrow Richmond and Uxbridge College, and leading the Heathrow Inclusive Learners Partnership to ensure equitable pathways for learners to gain experience, internships and work. Jenny advocates that each person should have an equitable seat at the table and creating a safe environment to challenge and improve the way we interreact and build the world around us.

Joanna is Head of Customer Success and a member of the senior leadership team at IAND with 15 year’s experience leading transformation projects in tech companies and management consulting. She is responsible for helping infrastructure clients including Network Rail & Anglian Water deliver on the supply chain strategies through digital transformation of their ecosystem management to deliver on commercial & social value goals. Throughout her career Joanna has championed inclusive working practices from recruitment and team building through to project delivery and performance management. She strongly believes that diverse organisations and their supply chains are fundamental to high performing organisations.

Laura is the Head of Strategy for Sellafield Ltd’s Major Projects Client team. She has over 25 years' experience in designing, building and leading multi-agency teams and is currently supporting Sellafield Ltd to create the environment needed to realise the benefits of the 20-year multi-billion pound PPP model that will deliver a series of complex major projects as part of a 100-year decommissioning programme. She leads the team focusing on enabling the success of the model through behaviours, relationships and engagement as well as driving sustainability outcomes, including social value.

Lorna began as a management trainee and has gone on to have a varied career over 18 years in the people team at Willmott Dixon, spanning people operations, reward, and technology. Lorna has led business improvement projects, implementing talent acquisition, performance management and learning systems and now leads the centralised people support team that was established last year.

Mark Buckle is the Technical Director at Tilbury Douglas with global construction experience over 30 years. His expertise lies in transformation strategies, commercial and construction management. Mark’s responsibilities encompass digital construction, design, and the company’s ESG strategy focused on People, Planet, Performance. He leads strategic supplier relationships, advancing carbon reduction and MMC research. Mark also drives the development and implementation of BIM, ‘digital twins’, and AI to optimize performance across Tilbury Douglas, ensuring sustainable and efficient practices.

Mark is a seasoned business improvement specialist with experience across a variety of construction environments. Mark leads BBI Services, Building Business Improvement, who specialise in whole-company strategy deployment enhancing business performance, the engagement of teams and long-term success. From a project/programme perspective, Mark has worked with clients, contractors and supply chains for many years to drive certainty and betterment with real ROI and improvements critical at the project/programme level. This includes the People, Process & Performance aspects blended to impact the drivers of performance and draws upon his experience from various other sectors over many years of development work.

Marny Moruzzi is Senior Associate Project Manager in Advisory Programme Delivery at Mott Macdonald and the Vice President of Women in Transport. An award-winning chartered project leader of nationally significant major transport and infrastructure portfolios, experienced in delivery and leadership roles. Marny is a Fellow of the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation, a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, an accredited NEC Project Manager and Institute of Leadership and Management Level 7 certified. Marny’s energy and enthusiasm is unbounded with interests extending to business innovation, net-zero carbon, legislative processes and policy, and project financing. Marny is a 2022 We Are The City award winner for Transport Infrastructure and Logistics and an active Champion for Equity Diversity and Inclusion. An accomplished thought leadership writer and speaker, Marny has written articles and detailed toolkits for the progression and retention of industry entrants, maternity/paternity, career change and long term sickness returners. Marny is a full-time working Mum of two boys and active working parent role model.

Martin’s experience across the Morgan Sindall group of companies ranges from special works to major projects and design. Martin is NEBOSH qualified and oversees the management of health, safety and environment for the Construction and Property Services businesses. With a detailed knowledge of legislation, guidance and industry best practice, he also helps support and develop initiatives within the wider Construction Industry. Maxine is the HR Director for the Transport, Energy and Power Major Projects businesses in Balfour Beatty. During her career with the Group, which spans over 28 years, she has led the people agenda for various businesses and joint venture organisations. 

Melissa Zanocco OBE, Capital Projects & Infrastructure, Industry X at Accenture, is one of the instigators of Our Vision for the Built Environment, and is committed to transforming the built environment sector to produce better outcomes for people and nature. She is Co-Chair of both the Project 13 Adopter Community and the Digital Twin Hub Community Council as well as a member of the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation's Deep Decarbonisation Initiative, WEF / G20 Global City Data Movement and the Bridge AI Construction Working Group. She is a member of the UN Women UK community, including as part of the delegation to the Commission on the Status of Women 2022-24.

Natalie McIldowie has worked in the water and environment sectors for over 25 years.  At Jacobs, she is a Client Account Director focused on the Environment Agency.  Her leadership style reflects her interest in people, client relationships and the built and natural environment. She avidly supports inclusion and diversity in the workplace, serving as an ally to employee networks and being a mentor. Outside of work she likes to run, walk, go camping and see live music.

Peter is a Chartered Civil Engineer and a Chartered Water & Environmental Manager with 45 years experience of working on a range of multi-discipline projects both in the UK and Internationally. Peter has worked for a number of major public and private sector organisations and has extensive experience of developing both individuals and organisations. For the past 10 years, Peter has been the National Civil Engineering Director for the Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA). He is currently Chairman of the HSE CONIAC Tackling Ill Health Working Group, Co-Chair of the Institution of Civil Engineers Safety, Health & Wellbeing Leadership Group and a member of the Health in Construction Leadership Group.

Phil is a Health and Safety practitioner with 20 years operational experience within a variety of business sectors operating across the UK from chemicals, Downstream fuels, through Logistics and social care finally as Director of Health and Safety at the Glass and Glazing Federation, the international trade body for the glazing industry . He has been with British Safety Council for Four years and has in the last 2 headed up British Safety Council’s Audit & Consultancy Department. In this time Phil has not only taken an active role in the delivery of British Safety Council’s audit services but has championed better understanding of how Health and Safety can enhance the objectives of organisation’s big or small.

Rachel is a multi-award-winning organisational culture specialist with over twenty years’ experience in senior roles, culminating in her winning DE&I Influencer and AECOM winning the Inclusive Culture award at the ENEI awards 2023.  Rachel joined AECOM in 2021 as Head of ED&I for Europe & India where she has developed an ambitious ED&I strategy achieving the Clear ED&I Silver Accreditation and accolades at the European Diversity Awards.  Prior to this, Rachel spent sixteen years in policing in various strategic police staff roles including the Met where she delivered key programmes including Returners, MetBaby and reengineered the workplace adjustments process.

Ros Thorpe, our Director of Education and Standards, joined the Institute in 2009 as an accreditation officer and took on the role of Head of Education in 2011. Prior to that, Ros worked as a teacher of English and corporate courses manager at the British Council in Moscow, where she lived for 10 years. Ros has a degree in English and a post-graduate diploma in Russian, as well as various teaching qualifications. Ros is a Chartered Member of the CMI. Ros is responsible for managing the Institute’s regulated qualifications and exams, the accreditation process, and maintaining the Institute’s published standards, the Education Framework.

Shervin Yousefzadeh currently leads the strategy for the construction sector at GS1 UK, drawing on his strong experience as a previous Head of Digital Construction. His main goal is to build important relationships within the industry and promote the use of GS1 standards. His extensive experience in Building Information Modelling, coupled with significant contributions to transformative projects like the Transpennine Route Upgrade – West, continually shapes his approach. Now, Shervin is dedicated to showcasing the benefits of standardised practices in construction, aiming to make a lasting impact in the industry.

Stephen is the Director of Wellbeing at British Safety Council. He specialises in strategic workplace health & wellbeing and his career in this field spans 30 years. He has worked in-house HR, in the consulting space, to leadership roles. Stephen works with organisations around the world helping them understand and address people risks, with a specific focus on well-being. His work encompasses a broad range of workplace well-being interventions; from optimising support infrastructures, to development of stress risk management frameworks, to attendance management frameworks, through to behavioural change informed programmes. In 2012, he co-founded the C3 Workplace Health Movement, a networking and knowledge sharing body of HR and workplace health professionals; and is a former advisor to the Mayor of London’s Healthy Workplace Charter.

As the Director or Emerging Talent and Inclusion at Kier, Tracey is a strong advocate of attracting and retaining diverse young talent to the industry and takes a personal interest as a mentor for those looking to enter the world of work. She believes we need to change the image of the industry to young people as well as teachers and parents so people are aware of the fantastic opportunities this industry can give.
