Health & Safety Initiative of the Year

Balfour Beatty Vinci
Health risk guidance campaign

BBV’s Health Risk Guidance campaign significantly raised awareness of health hazards (dust, noise, vibration) with a focus on silica dust exposure. We created and distributed 2,500 pocket-sized z-cards detailing specific control measures for eight high-risk activities. Through 18 face-to-face sessions and multi-channel communications, over 1,100 workers were engaged, with 91% finding the sessions relevant. Additionally, a comprehensive Health Risk Assessment Guidance document was developed to support engineers and supervisors in implementing correct controls. This campaign ensured practical, actionable information reached the operational workforce, significantly improving workplace health and safety awareness.

The Rapid Post

We consider that this project specific solution can benefit the safety of the thousands of people in our industry in the UK. It is not just a solution for a timber frame but can be implemented on high rise steel structures and concrete frame. The beauty of this innovation is that it does not impede the worker or work operation, it does not add time or complexity and it is making work at height activities that extra bit safer. Safety innovation needs to be promoted and we believe an innovation such as this can make a difference in construction.

EKFB
Health videos

We wanted to educate our people in the top 5 health hazards – noise, dust, musculoskeletal, vibration and skin hazards so they would have a better understanding of how to prevent work related health conditions from developing or worsening. By using a video format featuring our people we are able to reach more people and raise awareness of health hazards. The videos have been very successful in that more people are able to talk about their understanding of the management of health in the workplace.
