On The Tools
Skills shortage campaign
On The Tools' "Closing the Gap" campaign is a groundbreaking initiative addressing the UK construction skills shortage through innovative outreach, robust resources, and a commitment to diversity and inclusion. By uniting industry stakeholders and leveraging significant media coverage, we have effectively promoted apprenticeships and supported long-term career development in construction. Our success is demonstrated by extensive engagement metrics and positive feedback from apprentices and industry leaders.
Reds10
Sustainable career options
Since its inception, Reds10 has been dedicated to addressing the aging construction population, through hosting and supporting apprentices, which naturally expanded into a commitment to providing truly sustainable career options at all levels. The company, which currently employs 414 people, hosts 13 apprentices, 6 graduated in the last year and 7 are currently being onboarded into the business. Reds10 goes above and beyond in its support of the next generation entering the industry, not least by launching a revolutionary dual career pathway with community partner Hull City Ladies FC or by creating a state-of-the-art joinery workshop with full-time dedicated mentor.
William Hare Group
Early careers programme
At William Hare Group, we are passionate about creating a culture of progression via our Early Careers Programme. Recognised for excellence, we received Platinum membership from The 5% Club and are also among the UK’s Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers. With a 92% retention rate, our programme provides extensive support. We actively promote construction careers through school events and placements. Forecasting 35 new apprentices for 2024, we aim for over 15% of our workforce to be apprentices. Many of our current senior managers started out as William Hare apprentices themselves, as the scheme ensures a thriving business despite industry skills shortages.
